As marketers, we're operating in a world of information overload. I filter through hundreds articles a day from advertising, technology, and marketing industry resources trying to get to the bottom of what really matters to my clients, my agency and my students.
I'd like this page to be a place to hold discourse about what really matters for today's marketer. Is the new twitter-app-hashtag-blog-internet-iphone-data-rss-feed-hot-topic of the day in the industry trades really the game changer for marketing? Where do the traditional marketing rules hold true, and where do they get thrown out the window? How hostage are we to the whims of the big technology companies like Google and Facebook when it comes to advertising, mass audience reach and the rules of this new game?
Let's talk! Read some articles, share your thoughts, post your links and let's get this brain-trust moving!
Marketers are doing almost anything to find out more about us! Way to creepy for me.

Hi Erin - Looking forward to your class! I came across this site which links a QR code on your business card to a simplified online profile. Thought it was neat! https://about.me/
ReplyDeleteTraditional media advertising, especially newspaper, have lost a considerable share of the market due to digital competition. Somewhat surprised about the amount of dollars still spent on television. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703864204576313573680813568.html
ReplyDeleteMegan, Great site! Can't wait to get started. https://about.me/
ReplyDelete@Donna - Interesting utopianist article. I've heard a lot about personalized tv commercials based on set-top data. I haven't seen it used in action yet though.
ReplyDelete@Megan- that about.me site is pretty cool too! I love watching what happens to new technology. Do you think About.me is going to stick, or do you think it will fade into the other millions of social media connection tools?
ps- thanks for a great first class tonight, ladies! I'm looking forward to filling your heads with everything I can, and hoping to make the next 5 weeks of classes awesome!

@Erin-I've read about authors being turned down by publishers, eventually motivated to find other sources to publish their books, i.e. ebooks. This has now pushed authors and fans to an interesting discussion about ebook signing:
